If you follow my ramblings, this is not the first time I talk about the dark side. In fact, if you have not noticed already, I am addicted to the dark side. Simply because I am of the opinion that the dark side is misunderstood, and no one talks about it enough.
There are too many pictures of rainbows and talk of positive psychology and think about the bright side of things. Of course, why would we not?
What I contend with, is the need to brush away the dark and only focus on the bright side.
Yet such irony. It is a juxtaposition – without the dark, how do you see light?
Without the dark, how did photos get developed?
Without the dark, how will you follow the comet’s trajectory?
Without the dark, how will you see the sparks of fireflies?
Without the dark, how will you gaze up at the stars?
In my darkness, I found so much creativity. Without it, this blog would not have existed in the first place.
Scientists are also showing that happiness actually hinders creativity. There is a backlash to being all happy-clappy.
I sometimes wish I could go back to that darkness, be enveloped by it, to savour it one more time.
In my darkness, I found comfort, rest for the eyes from the ostentatious glare of light.
Embrace the darkness, the light, and everything in between.
“There is always a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in”.
indeed!
